Can AirPods be tracked after a factory reset in lost mode?

if i put my airpod pros in lost mode and somebody tries to factory reset them can it still be findable

AirPods have been stolen. I put them into lost mode - can they still be used or reset? They have been in lost mode and I was able to track them until the battery presumably died. I know how to use lost mode but my question is - if they are in lost mode, can someone reset them? Can someone connect to them? If they can reset them, will they no longer update on “Find My”? I can’t seem to find this answer anywhere.
