Why does my new Mac mini M4 randomly restarting?

I have a new m4 mini, since day one, if I wake it from sleep it gives me a log-in screen and then says it restarted because of a problem. This isn't every time I use the computer, but it is at least once a day. It has also on two or three occasions just restarted "because of a problem," while I was working. On none of these occasions was I doing anything particularly intensive. I may have had a few tabs open in chrome and photoshop / lightroom idle in the background.

System Specs:

M4 Pro

48 GB

800 gb+ of 1tb free

Apple Track pad

Apple wireless keyboard

(both old 2009ish)

BenQ SW272U display via Thunderbolt

I'm connected to a network and NAS via ethernet.

OS 15.3.1

Is anyone else having this issue?

All lies... Those companies bad mouth EtreCheckPro, because we use it to ferret out their paid poorly made junk-ware that creates problems for Mac's.

EtreCheckPro is an excellent tool for finding and sorting out junk-ware problems.

Download and run the free version of EtreCheckPro, from > https://etrecheck.com/en/index.html

Then post back here with your Report, as per > How to use the Add Text Feature When Post… - Apple Community

Full Computer Sleep Mode can cause an assortment of different problems.

As a test:

Turn On "Prevent automatic sleeping when display is off"

Set "Turn display off when inactive" to 5 or 10 minutes

Leave the M4 Mac mini On and only allow the display(s) to turn Off

Do not manually select Sleep from the Apple Drop Down menu

Leave the Display on and allow it to go into standby mode

Only Shut Down the Mac when away for a day or more

Happy Mini M4 Pro user here. Have had solid reliability here since it was purchased in early December. As others have suggested, testing sleep options may be a good troubleshooting step, and EtreCheck may reveal the issue. I can however say that I have had good behavior with Energy defaults:

I have not seen this issue. Test without using sleep. It only causes issues. Just have the display turn off after a set time. However, that being said your Mac should not restart on its own unless there is an issue. Also test without any external hardware connected like a drive or dock and test. Perhaps you should run the free app Etrecheck and review the results. You can even post here for review.

"EtreCheck does not meet Apple's standard for acceptance into the official App Store.

Don't be fooled by those high-level users on Apple Support Communities no matter what level they are. This is social engineering done to make you think it's perfectly ok to download an unknown program from the internet that can't make it into the App Store. Numerous versions of EtreCheck have been proven to contain malicious code and contact IP addresses that are known to host malware files according to top anti-virus companies including McAfee, TrendMicro, AVG, Avast, AegisLab, and more.
