How do I stop Notes from sending a copy of every new note to Mail?

How do I stop Notes from sending a copy of every new note and a copy of every. single. edit. to Mail? None of the solutions in similar old posts seem to apply. I never had this problem before the last update, I do NOT want to delete all my notes, and I don’t want to delete Mail, either. I want to keep using notes and keep using Mail, it is just very tedious and irritating deleting all the unwanted emails.
