I deleted my songs from my PC to free up space. I assumed I could always get them from iTunes.
I would suggest that that is a risky strategy. It's a much better idea to keep your own backups (as you go onto mention).
I do have a backup of my songs on an external hard drive. I copied them onto my PC, but that didn't help.
Once you copy them to your PC, you need to add them to your iTunes Library. Have you done that?
Although you may have turned on an option to automatically add songs to your library, it only works if you add the songs to the correct folder. The first thing therefore, is to confirm that the songs are listed in your iTunes Library.
If they are not listed, use the iTunes menu option File/Add Folder to Library (or File/Add File to Library for one song) and navigate to the appropriate folder:
- for a compete folder, navigate to but do not go into the specific folder. Add that folder
- for a single song, navigate into the folder and select that song's file
Ensure that you add the copy on your PC and not the copy on the external drive. Once listed in your iTunes Library - and you confirm that they play in your library, then they can be added to your iPod.
Adding them to your iPod will depend on which method you usually use:
- if you use Manually Manage, then you need to drag them to the iPod
- if you use Sync Entire Library, then providing the songs are still ticked (checked) in your library, the next Sync should add them. (Note the all songs are ticked (checked) by default)
- if you use Sync Selected playlists, artists, albums and genres, then you need to ensure that the new songs are in any one of the lists that you have selected to be added to the iPod.
