Erased OS and cannot connect to Wifi

I wanted to erase my data from the laptop to sell it.

Well, I’m a novice when it comes to anything Apple. When I did the factory reset and Erased things, I apparently erased the OS.

So I’m trying to do internet recovery but when it prompts to select my network it shows no options.

Ive connected to the Internet via a network cable but still nothing …

Help!

Installing the macOS from Scratch:

So, is the screen just black? Do you see an Apple Logo? Do you see any wording?

USB Bootable Installer:

Using another Mac, you can create and then use on this Mac, a bootable installer for macOS.

Connecting to wifi under Recovery has sometimes been difficult for a variety of reasons. One reason is that the Wi-Fi icon is sometimes drawn nearly impossible to see, in the upper right corner of the display.

Some users have said that they clicked around where they THOUGHT that Icon should be, and in some cases, Wi-Fi window popped open, they could enter their Wi-Fi password, and proceed.

Erased OS and cannot connect to Wifi: […]So typically what I tried last night was connecting it with Wifi first. Then once I get to the Activate Mac window, I move the Ethernet cable from our Wifi to the Ethernet adapter to the Mac.[…]

Create and Use a USB Bootable Installer:

If you keep clicking around the top-right corner and cannot find it, then you should create and then use a USB bootable installer for macOS. The first challenge to that is that you have to already have one in order to use it.

So, find a 32GB flash drive and then export its data to a computer(so that you don’t lose the data). Once exported, create this on another Mac. If you don’t have another Mac, then that’s another challenge — ask a friend or coworker if you may use their Mac (that’d be their call).

No, it’s not just black. It’s one of two screens I’ll see.

A screen with a spinning globe with a drop down menu to select the WiFi. So I do that, and it says “Initializing Internet Recovery.” Then I’m asked to select the language. Then it’s a screen that says “Activate Mac.” On this screen, I’m instructed to select the network to continue or connect via network cable, but there are networks shown. Neither there or on the WiFi icon at the top right corner.

It still has internet connectivity but via the cable.

if you HAVE the icon and click on it, it is supposed to show the networks it can see, and offer to connect you. You may have to enter the Wi-Fi password, in many cases long forgotten, but your phone may be able to tell you the password.

Do you have a Wi-Fi network available? if you have a Router, could you move closer and get a connection?
