Mac mini 2012 with Apple TV Remote

I have Mac mini 2012 and somehow It worked with my Apple TV remote. Is there any documentation for that? My remote only consist of play pause button, menu, and the big circle. The button that works only for volume control and play pause.

Unable to pair Apple TV 3rd generation remote i know this device is almost an antique but i would still like to continue to use it. i haven't used it for a couple of years and i don't seem to be able to get the remote to work. i put in a new battery and tried to pair it with the box but all i get is the light blinking 3 times. i have 2 remotes and neither one wants to pair. i found an article on how to reset the box with my mac but the instructions don't match the connections on the back of the box. there is no thunderbolt jack, only a mini HDMI and it is unclear how i use that to connect to my mac. i have a model A1427 manufactured in 2012 [Re-Titled by Moderator]

Old Apple TV remote, works for anything recent? I have the white first generation Apple TV remote. I know this from previous discussions. I’m wondering if it will work for anything like my laptop that is modern, for instance a slideshow or moving to the next picture, or pausing a video that is playing on the library site or YouTube? I had a previous laptop which was a 15 inch- The remote came with this about 10 or 12 years ago. Now I have a MacBook Pro 13 inch and a desktop Mac mini.

Apple does not offer any documentation. But yes it was possible to use it like that for basic media controls and presentations. Though there is no further details about it.

No, it won't work with newer Macs because they lack the infrared receiver.
