Old Apple TV remote, works for anything recent?

I have the white first generation Apple TV remote. I know this from previous discussions. I’m wondering if it will work for anything like my laptop that is modern, for instance a slideshow or moving to the next picture, or pausing a video that is playing on the library site or YouTube?

I had a previous laptop which was a 15 inch- The remote came with this about 10 or 12 years ago.

Now I have a MacBook Pro 13 inch and a desktop Mac mini.

think it would work with newer appletvs though limited usage only as the newer ones also use bluetooth

otherwise

no macs newer than 2012 or 2009 depending on the model will have an IR reciever which would be required for this remote to work
