iPhone 16 Pro Passcode Failure Causing System Crash

Last night, my girlfriend’s iPhone 16 Pro became completely inaccessible after attempting to add the Shanghai Transit Card to Apple Wallet. The system unexpectedly required her to set a new passcode. After entering the original passcode, it prompted her to create a different one. However, once set, the device rejected both the new and original passcodes, leading to an eight-hour lockout.

With no way to authenticate, the only solution provided was a full reset, resulting in total data loss due to the absence of an iCloud backup.

This is a serious security flaw—why does the system prioritize a failed passcode change over alternative authentication methods like Apple ID or Face ID? A simple Wallet action should not cause a device to lock up permanently.

Has anyone else experienced a similar issue? Are there any alternative solutions to regain access without a full reset?

Thank you.

iPhone Becoming Reset After Recovery:

There is no flaw here. This is the way this is deigned to work, being anyone could get your information after a reset. So, restore your iPhone from a backup, if you want to get this all back. If you never created a backup, then take this as a learning experience, knowing to always create a backup of your iPhone every-so-often, to prevent loss of data.

  1. Go here: If you Forgot your iPhone Passcode or your iPhone is Disabled - Apple Support
  2. As it Reads: "If you reset your device with these steps, the process erases the data currently on your iPhone. After you reset your device, you can restore your iPhone from a backup if you previously created one."

Recommend a Change to Apple:

Do your Part: If you do not like the way this is, then let apple know what how you think this should be different. Apple wont get back to you directly, but the more they hear of this, the more they will know what their customers prefer and what features need to be added. Apple will know nothing of your ideas, if you don't provide them to them.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - iPhone - Apple
  2. Select: "Feature Request" for the "FeedbackType"
  3. Comment: that you think this should be different and how., Include the URL of this thread.
  4. Proceed from there as necessary
