2020 Macbook Pro won't turn on unless plugged in

Around a year ago, I sent my laptop to the Apple Store to get the battery replaced. Soon after I got my laptop back, this problem started happening. Sometimes it'll work just fine, but other times, the laptop won't turn on or stay on without the charger. When I restart or shut down, the battery symbol either doesn't show up or has an "X" in it instead of a percentage. The battery tab in System Settings says that the battery is fully charged. When I remove the charger while the laptop is on, there are a few seconds of functionality before it shuts down. The shut-down laptop doesn't respond to the power button or space bar without the charger.

Anything I can do myself without having to go back to the store? I don't have easy access to one right now, and I don't feel like going to one again since the problems started after it got "fixed."

Thanks!

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 15.3

You should have taken the laptop back immediately to have Apple make it right while you still had the 90 day part/repair warranty. Of course now a free repair is no longer an option.

At most you can try an SMC Reset (read the instructions carefully since the procedure has changed for the T2 Macs).

I guess you could try a DFU Firmware Revive which resets the T2 security chip & system firmware, but I doubt this will have any effect.

From what you've described you either have a bad battery or a bad Logic Board.

Personally I would not spend any more money on repairs to this laptop for multiple reasons. The money spent on repairs is better put towards a new laptop.

Both solutions here seem to work sometimes! I can't tell which form of reboot made it work, but I now can actually unplug my laptop. Unfortunately, rebooting doesn't always fix it. The computer will go back into the problem state no matter what I do.

Probably would be better to get a new one, but I don't like the idea that this kind of tech can't last more than five years.
