This is what happens when you don't take the time to read past the first post. Had you done so, you'd already know that all you have to do is update the Facebook app as Meta, the parent company of Facebook acknowledged the issue and issued an app update last week, which fixes this.
Mine is black. Why is it happening? I also have a message that pops up over my typing stating this item is saved as a draft. It doesn't go away!!!! Why????

How to eliminate gray box when writing in comment section
I’m having it too, in Australia on the iPhone 14. It’s on every comment I make and it’s irritating.
It started for me when I upgraded to iOS 18.3.1
Is there a fix for the annoying grey box? You cannot read or edit what you type. Literally if I need to edit, I have to go back and delete and retype.
No, the subject doesn't matter. It’s happening with comments I write on other people’s posts and also on my own page. iPad and iPhone.

Can we get a response from Apple technicians about this gray box problem? I would like to stop this from happening. It is very annoying not to be able to see what I am writing!
