How can I install iTunes on a different drive?

my drive C is full and I have tried many time to install iTunes to drive E but the app will not let me select where to install it. It just pops up a message that there’s not enough space on drive C. I have nothing but programs on drive C and don’t want to move them off because drive C is fast. Any suggestions?

You cannot install the application outside of the C drive, but you can move your music library out to another drive and have iTunes access it from there.

If your library is consolidated, you simply move the iTunes folder to the other drive and then start iTunes while holding down the shift key. It should prompt you to select an iTunes Library, you can then just navigate to the location of the iTunes Library.itl file in the iTunes folder you moved.

If media is strewn about in different folders and not consolidated in the iTunes Media folder then you will need to consolidate it.

Thanks Phil. Hope you don't mind me suggesting a couple of minor tweaks to your details.

Typically you would install the app on the system drive (normally C:) but put the library and media on a different drive with more room if needed. What size is the C: drive and how much free space does it have? The iTunes install needs about 500Mb. Have you tried to free up drive space in Windows? https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/free-up-drive-space-in-windows-85529ccb-c365-490d-b548-831022bc9b32.

What about your own documents and data? Are they stored on C: or elsewhere? If you have a small system drive along with a dedicated data drive/partition then it may not necessarily be configured such that your data always goes to the preferred drive.
