How can I check if my Mac is stolen using the serial number?

a friends mom passed away and I was given her computer .during a reset to factory setting it goes to a Williams preparatory School setup and asks for a admin password I tried calling but the say if it has there software than it was probably stollen the sn# is C0*****1G6 purchased date July 2017 can anyone help with this
