How to identify encrypted text messages on iPhone?

if all incoming text messages are now grey (not green for non-imessage or blue for I-message), how does one tell if the texting is encrypted or not? i.e., how to tell if sender is using iMessage or sms?

Incoming messages have always been gray… only outgoing messages are color coded.
