Do I need a separate cellular contract for GPS-enabled iPad?

I'm looking to get an IPAD 9th gen. with GPS chip that are only available for IPAD with cellular, and wondering if I have to get another get another contract with my carrier? What I want is for it to use the connection to the my iphone 12, for data. I don't want it to make calls the IPAD, just want to use it as a gps system for in my truck.

No, you don't need a separate Cellular contract for your WiFi+Cellular iPad. Your iPad can simply use your iPhone's Cellular hotspot if the iPad requires internet access while away from a WiFi connection.

Many users choose a WiFi+Cellular iPad just to benefit from GNSS/GPS functionality - with no intention of adding a dedicated Cellular plan for their iPad. That said, the option to add a Cellular plan remains available should the need arise
