iPad photos taking 3 GB of space - why?

My photos on my iPad are supposed to be (set up to) stored icloud so why does it tell me photos is taking 3GB of space.?

iCloud Photos is not an alternative storage location for your photos. iCloud is principally a file synchronisation service - and for photos, maintains an additional copy of your photos.


Your iPad will always have a local copy of photos that are synchronised with iCloud - although it is possible to configure the iPad to optimise storage and only keep a reduced-resolution copy of the original photos on your iPad.
