how come my new Macbook has only a six-month warranty?

I have just purchased a new Macbook from Elkjøp in Norway and it arrived today. I started it, logged in, got it set up... and now I see that my warranty expires Aug 25, 2025. It is now Mar 5, so that means I get only five months and 20 days of warranty. This product was sold to me as new by a reputable and very large retailer. How could this be?

Probably because you bought a gray market device from an unauthorized retailer.

The warranty clock started ticking the day it was originally sold by Apple or an authorized retailer.

If they do happen to be an authorized retailer, the most likely explanation is that they sold that device, which started the clock ticking, then it was returned by the customer and they put it back in stock.

If you are within the return window, return it and get your money back and buy one from an authorized retailer.
