Siri won’t listen / says “something went wrong “

A number of people reported this error in older posts. They tried everything.

I had this problem for a few days and tried all of the suggestions in other posts short of resetting the phone.

someone even mentioned it was a hardware problem and that Siri uses a different mic, but I tested and disproved that by opening settings > Siri Responses and selecting “Always show speech” which shows your spoken words as txt on the screen.

since my words were showing up, clearly siri was getting my words but not processing them.

I found a solution. Go to your Siri & Search settings, and choose a different language.

my original language was “English (United States)”. I switched it to “English (UK)” and immediately Siri worked.

I switched back to the United States language and its still working.
