Old MacBook Air screen problem

I’m on a 2014 MacBook Air

I have had this happen before, I assumed it was completely broken after taking it to a store and they couldn’t do anything.

Anyway I kept it stored away for about 3 months and randomly tried to turn it on one day and it worked, was like nothing had happened.

However this screen has come up again, it started as lines on the normal screen and got progressively worse to this point, does anybody know what it is or how to fix it? I saw something about the battery could have died and fully reset the graphics but not sure

Thanks

If you have an external monitor handy, connect it to your Mac. Does the macOS Desktop appear properly on the monitor?

If it does, then most likely the issue is with the Mac's display or with the video cable between the Logic board and the display.

If it does not, then there could be an issue with either the GPU or the Logic board.

Both of these would require a repair. Since this Mac is now in the obsolete service category, Apple will not be able to perform any repairs on it.

Even if you can find a third-party willing to do the repair work, the costs will be significant and may not be worth it for such an old Mac ... and not trying to "rub salt into the wound" even if you can get it repaired, it cannot be updated past macOS Big Sur, which is now four versions back from Sequoia and is no longer getting security updates from Apple..
