iPad consistently not connecting to Canon Pixma 8660 series printer

In a previous thread 2 key questions were asked 1) is it AirPrint compatible - answer is yes

2) has the ipad been updated - answer is yes - one of the many recent updates.

The advice to reset and restart routers etc seems to be only temporary as it can work for a couple of days or a week and then stop connecting. I dont find that this is a “solution”.

another key part of the answer in the previous thread states that the device may not be set up correctly for the Bonjour protocol. And goes onto state “The Apple Bonjour protocol uses mDNS (Multicast DNS) UDP port 5353“

My specific question is how do I and where do I find that setting in my own device or in the printer to check to see if it uses the correct port. Thanks in advance. Suzie

If you continue to experience difficulties, check to see if your iPad is using the WiFi Private Address feature. This feature causes your iPad's MAC Address to regularly change - the intent being to provide additional privacy and security when using “public” (untrusted) WiFi networks.

Settings > WiFi > [Your WiFi Network / SSID] - tap the “i” icon - Private Address

The Private Address feature is largely unnecessary for your home WiFi network; if enabled, Private Addressing can interfere with anticipated operation of other devices, such as AirPrint/Airplay. In such circumstances, you may need to disable this feature - and can be enabled or disabled for each individual network.

If you have a VPN App or profiles installed, or a security/AV/firewall App such as Norton, these may be interfering with your network connection. If applicable, the resolution is usually simple; you may need to disable or remove the Security App and/or VPN.

Otherwise, given your description and the steps already taken to address the problem, the logical conclusion is that your WiFi Router is unpredictably dropping multicast traffic.

In such circumstances - and assuming that your WiFi Router is the only network infrastructure component other than client devices and your printer - the only advice that I can offer is to (a) explore available settings of your Router, (b) reset your WiFi Router to factory settings, or (c) replace your WiFi Router in it's entirety.

Thanks for the information - much appreciated. I have tried the suggested solution (which makes perfect sense) and I have turned off/disabled the feature as explained but the is still not working, as seen by my screenshot. I then tried to use trouble shoot from the Canon Print app (reinstalled ) but also received the message that the ipad could not communicate with the printer. (Or vice versa) Very frustrating. It has worked pretty well previously - this is a 6 month issue and we have had the printer for about 18 months regards
