Phone call verified by carrier
Called from people I know & potential spam have “ calls with a checkmark have been verified by the carrier.”
What does this mean?
iPhone 15, iOS 18

The “call with checkmark verified by carrier” means the call has successfully passed through a verification scheme known as STIR/SHAKEN.
It’s an attempt to detect and report call spoofing, spam calls, and related rubbish.
The attempt has limitations around carrier support and implementations, around international calls, around spammers and scammers using ever-changing calling numbers, and probably also your average breached VOIP server messes.
Whether that checkmark means it is less likely to be spam or scam remains to be determined.
Apple added support back around iOS 13.

Sort of like how https security protects you from eavesdropping – but isn't a guarantee that you are connecting to a safe site.
If you make a https connection to a hypothetical site run by "CriminalsRUs", the conversation is protected against eavesdropping by other criminals – but your visit is far from safe!
