Bug in battery management? Battery charges to 100% despite limit to 80%

I set the charging limit to 80%. But the phone still charges to 100%. Why? It seem that it depends on which charger I use. So what is the value of this limit if the software cannot detect that the battery is charged to a certain level? On the side of the battery management it should be easy to control this. I think this is a serious software bug.

No bugs at all.

The battery will charge to 100% "occasionally" according to Apple to assist with accurate battery calibration. Here is the pertinent info from Apple's documentation:

I added the red border. Otherwise the print is much lighter and smaller than the rest of the document.

The only real question here is how often "occasionally" might be. It was as much as 3-4 times a month for me, but I'm sure other users will report different results. Kind of defeats the "Charge Limits" thinking, doesn't it? So, I ignore the charge limit settings.

After all, iPhone users somehow got by just fine for 15+ years without "charge limits"

My opinion......Charge Limits are more of a gimmick than anything else......but that might be another discussion.

The “which” charger is a clue. Are these all either Apple or certified as Made for iPhone from a reputable manufacturer such as Anker, Griffin, etc? Or a cheap no-name device from a gas station or supermarket (or Amazon)? Likewise, for the cable?

The other question is how often this happens. Even when you set 80% it will sometimes charge to 100% for one charge cycle to fully exercise the battery.
