Mouse cursor freezing on 2024 MacBook Pro

I purchased a new 2024 MacBook Pro with Apple M4 Max chip. The mouse cursor for my wired MacAlly mouse freezes on the screen occasionally. It starts moving again after unplugging and re-plugging the connector to the USB port. Any solutions? I reinstalled the operating system but the problem persists. Thanks.

Hmm, reinstalling the Mac's operating system would be a pretty drastic troubleshooting step.

Regardless, can you control the cursor normally with the laptop's trackpad? Does your Mac recognize this mouse in System Information properly? Do you have another wired mouse to test with?

Have you contacted MacAlly support to see if they can offer any advice?

Yes, the cursor can be controlled normally with the trackpad. Yes, the Mac recognizes the mouse normally in System Information. For some reason the Mac loses track of the MacAlly mouse after a while. I tested various MacAlly wired mice and they all have the same problem. I may have a solution which I am testing - a Logitech wired mouse seems to be operating normally, however I prefer the ergonomic light MacAlly mouse, so I hooked up a USB hub to the computer and both the Logitech mouse and MacAlly mouse to the hub. The MacAlly mouse seems to be operating okay while hooked up to the hub with the Logitech mouse. Also, I emailed MacAlly tech support a week ago with no response yet.

Interesting ... per chance is this USB hub powered? If so, it may indicate that your Mac's USB ports do not supply enough power to your MacAlly mouse and why your Mac is having this issue. Since you already tried using another brand, this appears to be common with the MacAlly mice. Did you have an opportunity to contact MacAlly about this?

Will do. I had already contacted Apple support last week, they had told me to reinstall the operating system. Thanks.

Yikes! Seems like the "simple" solution when support doesn't know the answer. Well, at least, we now know the results. ;)
