Solution to 2016-2017 Honda Accord CarPlay Crashing

It's been widely known that the 2016-2017 Honda Accord models have issues with their Apple CarPlay. While using it and driving, the console may suddenly and randomly freeze up, glitch out, and switch to your phone. This is particularly the case when using any navigation system on your phone (Waze, Apple Maps, Google Maps), especially when done simultaneously with other apps like Spotify or calling someone else. I recently ran into this problem AND fixed it after acquiring my parent's 2017 Honda Accord EX. Figured I'd post this on more forums since I haven't seen anyone else post this solution yet.

The biggest thing that helped me was turning off bluetooth, either on my phone or completely disabling HandsFreeLink in the car's console settings. I noticed that the system would weirdly freeze while using Apple CarPlay and then sometimes randomly switch over to using my phone as a bluetooth source. This is just my hypothesis, but I think the iOS updates that Apple have sent out in more recent years may have made changes to their bluetooth. When working together with the system on the Honda Accord, the Accord will (for some reason) prioritize the bluetooth on your iPhone, thus ending the Apply CarPlay session and glitching out the entire consoling. If you turn off bluetooth on either your phone or your car, this shouldn't be as big of an issue. I also found that making maps 2D rather than 3D worked better with my console as well.

I did NOT have to download any new navigation or audio system from Honda (in fact, I still use the original 2017 system), get a high-powered USB cable, or take the entire console out to have it replaced. Before I fixed it, my system was also glitching out like crazy every time I used Apple CarPlay, especially when I would use Apple Maps, and it was a serious safety hazard to deal with while driving. Now that I have Bluetooth turned off on my car, I have experienced little to no glitches. I can use the navigation system, play music from Spotify, and/or call someone and not have to worry about it freezing up on me anymore. Hope this helps.
