Any purchase or subscription on your device is done by double clicking the side button with the amount showing on the screen followed by verification with FaceID/TouchID or Passcode. They received the verification for the purchase, so the question you need to ask is:
- Who else has the Passcode to my device? Change your Passcode
- Who knows my Apple Account Password? Change your Password
- What is the purchase for? This can be viewed in your Purchase History:

With that information you should have a better idea how their charges occurred. If you have the app on your device, then that would be a huge clue that the purchase was made on your device. A free trial could have been started a month ago that would become a subscription if not cancelled at least 24 hours before the trial period ended, and the purchase you would see today would have been due to the authorized verification back when the free trial started.
If you do not the charge in your Purchase History, then it may mean your card has been compromised. If you have other devices that are signed into your account that you do not recognize, then it may be that your Apple Account has been compromised. Review the devices logged into your account by going to Settings > [name on top], and scroll to the bottom to view the devices logged into your account.
