How do I get my devices to stop asking to trust each other???

I am at my whits end and am absolutely fed up with Apple not being able to understand that sometimes people do own their own devices and don't share them with anyone: I backup my phone to my computer every couple of weeks and finder has not been able to see my phone on wifi for MONTHS maybe even a year or two and I have to always manually connect the two devices with the cable and I ALWAYS have to keep telling both devices they can trust each other and I am just so sick of it every single time. How do I make them believe that yes, they are the same freaking device that I always connect to each other and that I do not have government secrets in anything I own so I don't need this ridiculous level of security and triple checking fort night after fort night, just let me back up my phone and stop dragging it out to an insane level of as many extra steps as humanly possible

iPhone 13 Pro, iOS 17

The "Trust This Computer" alert appears on an Apple device when you connect it to a new or previously unrecognized computer via USB, such as a Mac or PC. The alert asks you to confirm whether you trust the device you're connecting to.

Here are the key conditions under which this alert appears:

  1. When you connect an Apple device (iPhone, iPad, iPod, etc.) to a computer for the first time, iOS or iPadOS will ask you to "Trust" the computer. This ensures that the device owner is aware that the computer can access certain data or interact with the device.
  2. If you've previously connected the Apple device to a computer and selected "Don't Trust," the next time you connect that same computer, the alert will appear again asking if you want to trust it this time.
  3. If the device’s trust settings are reset (manually by the user or by restoring the device), you will see the "Trust This Computer" prompt again when connecting to a computer.
  4. Especially with iOS 16 and later, this alert can appear when backing up your device. If you have automatic backups turned on, it might appear every time you connect.
  5. After a software update or a device restore, trust settings might be reset, and the prompt will appear when connecting the device to a computer.
  6. In rare cases, switching to a different USB cable or port can trigger the trust prompt, though this generally happens only if the device has not previously trusted the current configuration.
  7. If the device's security settings are modified, such as disabling or clearing certain trust certificates, the prompt may also reappear when connecting to a computer.

To continue using the device with the computer, you’ll need to tap Trust on the device. If you select Don't Trust, the computer will not be able to access data or interact with the device, except for charging the device.

I completely understand your frustration with the constant need to manually trust devices and the extra steps involved in the process. It can be really tiring when it feels like you’re being treated like you're not in control of your own devices.

However, Apple has designed these security features, like the "Trust This Computer" prompt, to protect users from potential risks, as not everyone is as aware of the security implications of connecting devices. The system is intended to prevent unauthorized access, and while it might seem unnecessary in your case, it’s there to ensure that sensitive data stays secure, especially in environments where devices might be shared or compromised.

If you plug your device into airports and public places through third-party cables, DO NOT tap ok when prompted with "trust the device". Beware of Juice Jacking. (Especially in India)
