Editing iphone photo causes black style applied

I took a picture of my puppy in landscape mode, i want to rotate it. When i edit the photo the "Styles" option is automatically selected and its set on "standard", but it turns my picture so dark it almost looks embossed or negative.

Seems to only happen on this photo.

If i tap the picture it'll temporarily show me the original version of the photo, but i cant maintain that version for some reason.

If i save after rotating the photo, it saves black like shown.

How do i fix this?

Thanks

iPhone 16 Pro, iOS 18
