iPhone ringer volume keeps lowering itself (with an alternative solution)
This is a known issue and has multitude of threads on this platform but they all timed out due to inactivity. The issue continues. I double-triple checked that all of the below are disabled:
- Ringtone & Alert Volume -> Change with Buttons
- Face ID -> Attention Aware Features
- Reduce Loud Audio
Yet my ringer & alarm volume keeps getting lowered on a random day and time and I can't pinpoint the moment it happens of course.
My solution:
Use the native Shortcuts app to periodically fix ringer volume.
- Download Apple's "Shortcuts" app if you don't have it.
- Create a new shortcut named "Fix Ringtone Volume".
- Add the "Set Volume" action in that shortcut.
- Set the volume type to "Ringer" and set it to a percentage that you prefer.
- Save the shortcut and go back to the "Shortcuts" homepage.
- Select the "Automation" tab at the bottom and create a new automation.
- Select a trigger type. I select "Time of Day" and set it to the hour just before my alarms. Set "Repeat" to Daily. At the bottom, select "Run Immediately". This is very important for it to work autonomously.
- In the next step, select the shortcut that you created in step 5, "Fix Ringtone Volume".
Now everyday at the specified hour, this will run and increase your ringer volume. You can set it up for every hour, every 15 minutes, or even every minute if you wish (I don't know what's the effect on battery though) :D Or you can set it up with other trigger types available in the Automations.
This has been the only thing that solved my issue.
With that said, this is still an unfixed bug for 5+ years.
- Disabling Attention Aware Features: this should only reduce the sound for that one time I'm looking at my phone, not until eternity.
- Reduce Loud Audio: this feature is listed under Headphone Safety. How could it reduce alarm sounds?
