I still have two Apple Pro Bluetooth Keyboards (model A1016), neither of which I can get to work with my new Mac mini M4. Is there any way to make them work with the new Mac Mini's? Surely there must be? I much prefer the feel of those keyboards over the new flat metal ones and would really love to use one. Thanks

Hmm, these A1016 (M9270LL/A) keyboards came out in 2003. They only support Bluetooth 1.1 and were designed to only work fully up to OS X Snow Leopard. That's what? 13-14 operating systems ago. These, at best, are "museum pieces". As Camelot has pointed out, there may be a workaround, but is it really worth it?
This has come up before and seems related to the older Bluetooth mode used by that keyboard. You may need to enable Legacy or Classic Modes to get the Mac to recognize the device.
Follow the discussion at A1016 Apple Wireless Keyboard - pairing w… - Apple Community to see if it helps (although I don't agree with the 'sudo rm... ' commands since that will trash the Bluetooth configuration, losing everything else the Mac is paired with, requiring them to be re-setup as well.)
They might be old but I find it a senseless waste to dump them just because of a Bluetooth connection. I bought both from new (not as far back as 2003) and they are in mint condition. I keep one for a Mac Pro that I still run. (It's 15 years old and is still a decent workhorse! 😉) As I said, I much prefer the feel of these old keyboards to modern ones. The flat metal ones might look cool, and to be fair much easier to clean, but they're horrible to type on.
I hear you. I still have my 2008 Mac Pro that runs great. It's just that it's getting harder and harder to use it outside of my local network as it can't keep up with the newer technology. It's a bit like trying to find an Edelbrock manifold and Holley carbs for my 1968 Z-28 Camaro ... to keep it running.
My Mac Pro is a 5,1 from 2010 so you're doing slightly better than me 😉 I still use it for music recording and graphics and it still has many years of life in it yet. Not bad considering I'm always hearing PC people informing me that Macs are overpriced and I can't do this and I can't that on a Mac, and yet here it is 15 years later still getting on with doing what I apparently 'can't do' 😂 I only bought the Mac mini M4 because I need the latest versions of some applications for work.
