I recently purchased an apple device with my debit card, and was gifted a apple gift card for my birthday the following date. I am not seeking to return my device however, I wanted to know if I can bring the gift card to an apple store and be reimbursed a portion of my purchase to my original payment method?

Is the device within 14 days of date of purchase? If so, go to the store with the item, receipt and explain what you want to do. The specialist will need to get a manager probably to do the overrides.
What needs to be done is return the item, which credit full amount to card. The credit will probably take 5 business days, so funds won’t be available right away. Then repurchase the same item using gift card first, then balance with another form of payment. The store will need all the codes off the box to facilitate return and resale.
