Want to Add a scan function for my printer

I would like to add a scanning function to my printer. The instructions are to go.to the Start Menu, select the HP (printer brand) folder, select the product, then select scan to e-mail set-up.

Clearly this is for Microsoft.

How do I do this with an Ipad 10

Thanks

Multi-function printers devices often require installation of Device Drivers to add support for the individual device. iOS/iPadOS does not support installation of device drivers independently of an installable App.

Apple devices support AirPrint, this being Apple's driverless printing protocol supported by many printers - including the majority of modern HP Printers.

AirPrint, however, does not support scanning or other functionality provided by multi-function printers. For the additional features, you must install a manufacturer-provided App that adds support for the additional functionality of the printer - which for HP, is the HP Smart App:

I’ve used scan-to-email, but that is entire dependent on the mail server configuration requirements. That path is also unrelated to Windows, iPad, Mac, or whatever. That’s involving your printer and your mail server. That can also include needing to set up an app-specific password too, if your mail server requires that.

An ancient Brother MFC here (which predates AirPrint) works as expected, with the Brother iPrint and Scan app.

For a low-budget approach, iPad Notes app supports scanning.

For assistance with the HP gear, check with HP. Or replace it with gear that better meets your needs.

Preferably whatever you buy with AirPrint.

If y’all want us to look at whatever printer gear you bought HP or otherwise, you will need ro post the vendor and model info.
