Can’t add credit cards to iPhone wallet / Apple Pay

When I try adding a credit card to wallet / Apple Pay on my iPhone 14 Pro (iOS 18.3.2) I get the error message “Could Not Add Card. Try again later or contact your card issuer for more information). Same issue with different credit cards from different banks. Halifax bank customer service says the issue is with the wallet on my phone - which is not allowing access to the bank in order to add the card. Any suggestions for how to resolve this? (I did delete VPN but didn’t work)

You have to call the bank and ask them to escalate the issue to MasterCard or VISA depending on who issued the card through the bank

The only thing Apple Support can do in this situation is make sure your device is up to date.

This error means either the bank declined adding the card to apple pay, or VISA/MasterCard said the card can not be added to apple pay, it's also possible the rejection is based solely on your device, it might add just fine on someone else's phone.

Either way call your bank and tell them they need to fix it even if it means getting visa/MasterCard involved apple support can not fix this error
