A very small percentage of each transaction is paid by the bank. The cost to the bank is approximately 10¢ on each $100 USD. This equates to 0.1%. Some banks may be able to negotiate a slightly lower fee based on volume and other factors. Banks gladly pay the fee because of the huge reduction in fraudulent transactions.
