Unable to Edit a Google Sheet on iPad or iPhone without Logging into Google

I have created a Google sheet and sent a sharing link with the "Anyone with this link can edit" designation. When the email arrives on either iPhone or iPad, and I choose to open the link in Safari, I am unable to do any cell entry. However, if I choose to open in Google Drive (or even just logged into Google in Safari), it works fine. (For instance, my iPhone automatically opened the emailed link logged into Google, and it worked without any issues.)

My ipad gave me the option of opening it in Safari (did NOT work) or opening in Google Drive (worked perfectly).

It appears to be an Apple issue. I am capable of editing if I open the emailed link in my Windows laptop -- even without being logged into a Google account.

Any ideas? Is there some Apple privacy setting that is blocking editing access?

Thanks in advance.
