Turn off air printer on iPhone iOS 7

If you have a problem with your phone trying to use AirPrint instead of the WiFi, your have to be connected to the WiFi and then try to Print. If your phone isn’t connected to the WiFi it’s going to use AirPrint.

Not sure what you are saying here. To use AirPrint, you need a compatible printer that is connected to the same WiFi network that your phone is connected to. Both need to be on and connected to the WiFi network.

Not trying to use AirPrint and yes both your iPhone and printer needs to be connected to the same WiFi

Are you trying to create a user tip here, or ask a question about an issue with AirPrint or a Wi-Fi network?

This “not trying to use AirPrint so I need to connect my phone to the WiFi, to find my printer (which your printer should be connected to the same WiFi)” is self-contradictory, unfortunately. Not trying? Or not able?

The Canon PIXMA MX490 / MX492 Technical Specifications do list AirPrint support:

If not already updated, page 215 (starting on page 204) describes performing a firmware update via the printer LCD front panel display, as well:
