When selecting "Silence unknown Callers" on my IPhone, incoming calls are filtered out if not included in my "Contact List". But is the text message functionality effected at all? Can anyone still send text messages to me, even if not included in the Contact List?

No, that is a separate operation.
To filter unknown text messages:
Settings > Messages > Unknown & Spam and enable "Filter Unknown Senders". They then go to a separate category "Unknown Senders."

Thanks a lot for that very detailed reply! Now I can see that there actually is a just alike setting possible for the messages specifically.
