iPad App disables Auto-lock

iPad M2 Pro, iPadOS 18.3.1. Recently an app released an update and the app now disables the iPadOS auto-lock function. The developer is NOT providing a setting in either in the App internal settings or the IpadOS settings to override the App setting. It’s a static paint by number art app with no video and this is a recent change to an App that I’ve been using for 3 years. Given it can drain the battery if you forget to close the app before setting the device down and is a huge security issue, why does Apple allow an App to do this and NOT make the developer allow the end user to override the app and return to the expected auto-lock behavior.

Presumably normal auto-lock functionality returns when the App is not being used or has been closed.

Some Apps can indeed be coded to inhibit the auto-lock function - and for those that do, the App Developer often provides a configuration setting for this function.

If an App Developer chooses to not provide the means to re-enable Auto Lock - and ignores customers that would like the ability to choose - you would be well advised to (a) delete the App from your iPad, and (b) vote with your wallet and choose an alternative App that better meets your needs and requirements.

While Apple provides coding guidelines, these are (as the name suggests) just guidelines. Apps that contravene very specific criteria (usually relating to content) are either not approved upon initial review, or are subsequently removed from the Apple App Store.
