iPhone is hot when battery charging
Stops at 85% and gets hot when iPhone is charging. Is the batter in danger of chain reaction combustion?

Hello~ What model iPhone? Are you receiving a message like the one below?
If your iPhone or iPad gets too hot or too cold - Apple Support
Have you checked your battery health? Go to Settings > Battery, then tap Battery Health & Charging. What is the % shown? If 80% or under make an appointment to have your battery replaced. Click on below…

Yes Bro
And a swing and a miss.
Batteries do not combust. Make sure you’re using the original Apple charger block and cable or a cable that’s Apple MFI certified. Also, do not use the phone while charging.
If your battery health is under 80%, I would seek in replacing the battery due to it being over worked
I'm guessing you're using at least a 20w charger, which promotes fast charging and yes, when you fast charge an iPhone it gets warm naturally. It's called ion exchange, which is normal. Most of us see our batteries stop charging with a notification charging will resume when the phone cools down. This is a new feature built into iPhone charging system is not a cause for alarm.

You want the long answer (which you are free to use or adapt)?
If you fast charge your iPhone it may get very warm, and may pause charging at 80% and display a message saying that charging has paused, and will resume when the phone cools down. This is NOT overheating, and is normal when fast charging. It also won’t prevent you from using any app you have on your phone.
If you have just updated allow a couple of days for iOS to complete its “housekeeping"
Some apps that use a lot of energy or that use cellular data rather than Wi-Fi can cause the phone to run warmer. Worst offenders are Facebook, interactive games, watching streaming videos, and the Camera app. And having VPN installed, whether using it or not, can also consume a lot of energy.
All of these are manifestations of the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics.
Yes Bro
No, fast charging a lithium ion battery causes a by product, heat, and it’s normal. iPhones have internal monitors to cut off charging if it gets close to producing too much heat.
Hello~ I guess others consider that a technical answer unlike myself but what can you do? Glad that you agree ;-)

Thank you. This is very helpful to know about the problems that "fast chargers" may cause. Much appreciated.
It’s not a problem. It’s just physics, specifically the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics.
I’ll have to remember that, so I can sound smart too.
Thank you. This is consistent with my recent observations - that certain chargers (that perhaps are slower charging) do not cause this over heating.
Of course I want the long answer! Thank you very much.
Hello~ You’re welcome. Take care.
