Can no longer connect iPad to iTunes

As of yesterday I cannot connect my iPad to itunes on my desktop. The iPad prompts to trust the computer as normal. As soon as I select Trust a Touch ID symbol appears on the iPad with the following 'Your settings and data will be accessible from this computer when connected'. This only started happening yesterday. Itunes displays the 'Do you want to allow this computer to access information on this iPad?' prompt. The only option on the iPad Touch ID message is Cancel. When this is selected iTunes comes back with iTunes could not connect to iPad as this computer has not been trusted by the iPad. The iPad and iTunes appear to be up to date, thank you
