No trash icon on old photos. Hope to delete?
My old photos starting 2011 don’t have a trash icon when I pull them up to delete. How can I delete ones I no longer want?
iPhone 6s, iOS 15

Hi kittfrombluefield,
If you’re not seeing the trash icon when trying to delete older photos, they may have been synced from a computer using iTunes or Finder. Photos synced this way can’t be deleted directly from your iPhone.
To remove them:
1. Connect your iPhone to the computer you originally used to sync the photos.
2. Open Finder (macOS Catalina or later) or iTunes (macOS Mojave or earlier/Windows).
3. Select your iPhone and go to the Photos section.
4. Uncheck the albums or photos you want to remove.
5. Click Apply or Sync, and the photos should be removed from your device.
If you’re using iCloud Photos (Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Photos), make sure it’s enabled—this would allow you to delete photos directly from the Photos app.
Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.
Alex
