Apple Pencil pro will not connect to iPad Pro

Here is Apple’s definitive compatibility list for Apple Pencil and iPad:

Different models of Apple Pencil have different pairing interfaces and charging methods - and are therefore not interchangeable.

Assuming that you have a current model iPad Pro M4, this iPad only supports the new Apple Pencil Pro - and the lower cost USB-C Pencil. The first and second generation Apple Pencil are incompatible.
