Apple Pay Disabled because of security Setting of this Mac were Modified

I can't activate Apple Pay on my M2 MacBook Air running Sequoia 15 because I get an error that security settings were modified. I have followed all the steps that I have found in this community (and more).

  • The OS and all software is up to date
  • My security settings are set to high
  • I have file vault turned on
  • I have Automatic updates turned on
  • I have "Install Security Responses and system files" turned on. I have also turned this off, rebooted, and turned it back on.
  • I have started in Safe Mode
  • Finally I have reinstalled the OS

I have restarted the computer after each step but am still not able to activate Apple Pay. My wife has an M1 MacBook and is using Apple pay with no issues. Apple Pay works fine on my iPhone.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Robert

MacBook Air, macOS 15.3

You’re welcome! I’ve a few ideas what cause this issue. This usually fixes the issue. There is a plan B, so let’s see what works.

Please create a new admin user account. Once logged into the new account try to add a card. If you’re notified there is another Apple Pay account and do you want to reset it, say yes reset. Add a card. Once added, log out and go back to your original admin account, try to add a card. When it says there is already an Apple Pay account, do you want to reset, say yes and add your card. This should enable you to add more cards. You can delete the new account if you want. Just be careful deleting accounts.
