the 'iphone language' menu option has disappeared from my iphone 12

On my iphone 12 I went to settings/region and languages and the first menu on that page should be 'iphone language' is completely missing. I want to change my iphone language but i cannot if the menu option is no longer there.

I when i bought the iphone new in 2022 i initially set iphone language to French and a year later i tried changing it to english and it worked then i changed it back to French. Now in 2025 i want to change it to english and the menu option is missing. It should be just above 'preferred languages' but there is nothing.
