Expected behavior when locking computer that is unlocked by Apple Watch

I've set my Apple Watch Ultra 2 to unlock my MacBook Pro. I also use a Hot Corner in the lower-left to put my display to sleep and lock my Mac. However, after locking it, I have to sit perfectly still for about 20 seconds—otherwise, my Mac immediately unlocks if my Watch moves even slightly.

To avoid this, I either have to remain motionless or leave the room quickly so my Watch is out of range before the screen saver starts.

Is there a way to make my Mac adjust to my behavior instead of the other way around? It feels ridiculous having to freeze or run just to keep it locked. Am I missing something, or is this just how it works?

That is not the behavior I see.

Moving the Apple Watch has no effect on my Mac.

Only moving the mouse/trackpad cursor, or pressing a key, causes my Mac to attempt unlocking, and polling my Apple Watch.

The one other situation where my Mac unlocks unexpectedly is if the Mac is asleep, and macOS decides it has to wake up to check email, or do some system maintenance, then if my Apple Watch is nearby, the Mac will see it, and poll the Apple Watch for the unlock handshake.

I do not have any problems with a Hot Corner screen saver activation, then getting up from my chair and walking away.

Experiment. Stand up. Move cursor to your screen lock Hot Corner. Do not touch anything on your desk, and walk quietly away without vibrating the desk. Does the Mac still unlock?
