Troubleshooting Lagging and Stalled Apps:

A. Close All Apps:

These Apps may be open. So, save any information that need be, and then close all apps. Hold you finger down as you swipe up form the bottom-left corner of your screen. Then, close all of these open apps, by sweeping up quickly for all apps.

B. Perform a Force Restart:

Try Force Restarting your iPhone. Save any information that need be. Then perform the restart. See if you can then perform this. Go Here: Force Restart iPhone - Apple Support

C. Clear Space:

If Apps are stalled, then you may have little data remaining. That can stall a device. So, see if you need to clear space.

Troubleshooting iPhone Storage:

Internal storage cannot be upgraded. It is what it is. So, the maximum internal storage capacity never increases, even if you upgraded your iCloud plan. Learn More here: What's the Difference Between Device Storage and iCloud Storage? Apple Support

So, what to do...

On an iPhone, internet access remains on for essential services like emails, iMessages, and iCloud sync unless you manually disable both Wi-Fi and Cellular Data.

Here are a few other activities that may require an internet connection on your iPhone, which are generally not governed by Background App Refresh settings:

  1. Push Notifications – Apps can receive notifications, including iMessages, emails, or other app-specific alerts, even if Background App Refresh is off. This happens via the Push service.
  2. Siri – Siri often requires an internet connection for processing voice requests and fetching data like web searches or performing actions involving third-party apps.
  3. iCloud Backups – Automatic iCloud backups happen over Wi-Fi (unless you've configured the device for cellular backup), and they aren't controlled by Background App Refresh.
  4. FaceTime and Calls via Wi-Fi Calling – The Internet is required for FaceTime calls, as well as for Wi-Fi Calling if your cellular signal is weak.
  5. iCloud Photos Sync – Photos and videos will sync to iCloud whenever a connection is available, even if Background App Refresh is disabled.

These activities often rely on an active internet connection to function properly, independent of the Background App Refresh setting.
