Can AirTags help find lost dogs when wet?

Anyone use AirTags to find lost dogs? Will they work if wet? Thanx!

AirTags "found" but not found Hi, I'm curious about what might be going on with a missing AirTag. This tag was attached to my dog's collar--but he was running outside of our house and lost the collar somewhere. It can't be too far from our house and the strange thing is that I keep seeing the tag's location on the "find my" app...looking at the map, I see the "found item" at an address down the street from me--it appears to be on the sidewalk or perhaps in the road itself. But the address itself changes, from 200 yards away from me to 450 yards, and back and forth, over time. I walk down there to whichever address is currently on the map and try to play the sound, but then it says the AirTag is "not reachable." I've written the collar off as lost, unless one of the neighbors finds it somewhere, but I'm just very curious about what might be going on. This does not match how I think I understand AirTags to work. Thanks--

Airtag Find My - Shows with me, but Find function turns up nothing. iOS 17.5.1 on iPhone 15. I know it's not supposed to be used for pet tracking, but I have an AirTag on my cat's collar, mostly to find the collar when she loses it, which she did today. Previously when this happened, I'd open up Find My, walk our property, and eventually the app would get a signal and I could track it down. Today, no such luck and thought maybe she'd wandered so far when she lost it, it was off our property. BUT, whenever I go onto our back porch (which she frequents) Find My says the AirTag is "With You-Now". I set the "Notify when found" for the AirTag, and if I go back to the spot on my porch, I get the notification that "AirTag has been found". But still, "Find" turns up nothing. Of course, "Play Sound" won't work either. Checked location settings for Find My, restarted the iPhone, still no joy. Is there any chance a recent iOS update has broken this? Any other suggestions? Thanks!

they are somewhat water resistant Are AirTags waterproof? - Apple Community

but an airtag do not have gps, an airtags only means of communication is bluetooth so a range of around 30 meters

if your dog is outside of range of a person with an iphone with bluetooth enabled then

the airtag will be dead in the water.
