iPad 10th Gen - Lid closed? Or hitting the lock button?

Is there a difference between closing the lid on my iPad (10th gen) or just locking the screen with the button? seems like my battery is draining quickly for it being 3 months old.

iPad, iPadOS 18

Are you using a Apple cover, or some other third-party cover/case with your iPad?

All Apple covers for iPad have an embedded magnet that will automatically lock the iPad when the cover is closed (unless this function has been disabled in settings):

Settings > Display & Brightness >

  • Auto Lock - select as required (do not select Never)
  • Lock/Unlock - set to ON

Third-party covers may not include the required magnet that triggers the lock function.
