Did your Friend Sign Out of iCloud on this?

Enter the passcode incorrectly too many times, and you'd likely be locked out for good. So, hold it right there, and have your friend reset this to Factory Settings. He/Shee needs to perform as instructed here, inclosing the iCloud sign out: If you Forgot the Passcode on your iPhone, or your iPhone is Disabled - Apple Support.

Fixing this:

Connected this to a computer using a cable, and Force Restart it while it is connected with iTunes open. Use my User Tip: How to Fix an iPhone in a Boot Loop - User Tip
