Are you able to use find my on a device that’s shut down?

My sister lost her phone and it is likely stolen and shut off. Is there any way to get it turned on and use the play a sound feature to locate it?

If the phone is turned off, you can’t force it to turn on remotely. However, here’s what you can do:

1. Mark it as Lost in Find My (this locks the phone and shows a message with contact info).

2. Enable Notify When Found in Find My (you’ll get an alert when it turns back on).

3. Check iCloud.com/find to see its last known location.

4. Report it stolen to the police and your carrier (they can block it).

Unfortunately, you can’t play a sound until the phone is turned on and connected to the internet.
