ipad pro M2 not charging, not syncing via USB

my ipad pro M2 is only charging via a high power charger, original apple chargers do not work (high or low power). all my various cables work for charging (apple or non-apple). no other USB connections work, eg the ipad is not recognized by music app (for syncing) and does not recognize external adapters. all these connections using all this gear work fine with my iphone 15 pro max.


on ipad, i have reset all settings, no change. i have cleaned the USB contacts using alcohol and contact spray, no change.


apple genius bar checked the ipad via software, but could not find anything wrong. they suggest throwing it away, since they do not repair.


i suspect a software problem, because when connecting to my mac pro via USB, the green charging symbol appears for one second, before changing to 'not charging'. when connecting the switched off ipad to mac pro's USB, it will wake up and boot, saying 'not charging' afterwards. so there is contact, but it will not persist.


any ideas? thank you!

Some clarification of Apple's available iPad repair services may be helpful...


For practical purposes, in lieu of repairing and returning your own iPad, Apple usually exchange the iPad for a renewed/refurbished iPad of the same model and specification. The cost of the exchange is the same as would otherwise be charged for repair. Unless you have benefit of an active AppleCare plan, an out-of-warranty "repair" while expensive will be somewhat less than the cost of a replacement iPad.


As for out-of-warranty repair costs, Apple offers a fixed-price price "repair". You can verify eligibility and cost for your region/country here:

If you have an active AppleCare+ plan, the cost of repair is reduced to a small excess/deductible fee.
