CarPlay Maps auto start navigation to Home, make it stop 2025

Is there a way of turning off the Apple Maps “feature” that automatically selects home as your destination whenever you connect to CarPlay away from your home address? It’s creepy and irritating that it makes assumptions about where you are going.

A previous solution was to turn off important locations under the privacy settings, but this setting no longer exists as far as I can tell.

I'd really appreciate any help.

I seen this question but no answers. What worked for me in 2025 is this.

On your phone, under Maps, when you pull up there is a Library with locations and places. Go to places. Pinned, places, guides, routes.

What you want to do is go to each Pinned location and “unpin” it. So Apple knows my home, work, and where my kid goes to school. They still show up under places. But I had to unpin them and that unassociated them from the shortcuts of home and work in Maps.

A shame, but now when I go to CarPlay, it doesn’t auto-navigate to Home anymore.

I don’t know why the behavior of Maps is different between iPhone and CarPlay or why there isn’t some CarPlay specific setting to address this, but it is inconsistent and frustrating for users.
